From an early
age, Karen Alderson enjoyed drawing painting
and various crafts such as sewing, crochet and knitting. When
she discovered reproduction dollmaking, it seemed like the
ideal way to combine all the crafts she had learned. Soon
she discovered the world of original dollmaking and traveled
to learn sculpting from various teachers. Before she knew
it she was working solely on her own sculptures and was teaching
dollmaking and sculpting, as well as selling her work to doll
stores and collectors. Now, about 14 years later she still
enjoys creating the new faces and personalities for dolls
inspired by photographs? of people from all around the world,
specializing in children and young ladies.
Karen grew up in Sydney Australia
and now lives in Gembrook on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia's
second largest city. Gembrook lies in the Dandenong Ranges,
famous for it's scenery, forests and wildlife such as native
parrots and animals like kangaroos and wombats. Her studio
overlooks a valley and the Bunyip State Forest which provides
a peaceful outlook as well as the sounds of birds. Karen also
enjoys the company of her two pet dogs, a Shih Tzu and a Silky
Terrier.
As well as dolls, Karen also
enjoys creating bears which sell to both doll and bear collectors,
and traveling, specially when it gives her the chance to attend
shows and meet collectors and artists from around the world
